I worked at FAA HQS. Not ATC, but I did get a chance to visit the tower at Dulles and also the ARTCC near Dulles. Both very impressive, but what stood out for me was how incredibly quiet the control tower was no matter how busy it got. Can’t be distracting the controllers!
Loved this, I grew on the Miami International Airport from infancy to adulthood and the went into the aviation field at MIA, Nashville (BNA) and finally retired in Denver (DEN). My father was an ATC Tower Supervisor (2nd in command at MIA) for 30 years until he retired in 1971. And my mother was a bartender in the MIA terminal for 25 years. I spent many-a-night in the cab as a little kid. Back in the days where people dressed up to fly and they acted like normal human beings. I went the airline route both passenger and air freight/cargo for 48 years.
